Artist Information:
Iron Egg (from Singapore)
Based in Singapore, Darren Moore (laptop/percussion), Tim O'Dwyer (saxophone) and Brian O'Reilly (bass/electronics/moving images) work with minimal sound and image to achieve subtle passages of shadowy texture, constructing a world that is both haunting and beautiful.
Using extended instrumental techniques combined with live electronics, the group has developed a controlled improvisational approach that produces ethereal soundscapes that seem at times to be frozen in time.
We are delighted indeed to be hosting Iron Egg on their very first tour of Japan.
Go Koyashiki (matter)
With a firm background in music theory and history, musician and film composer Go Koyashiki approaches his work with a keen awareness of his place in the pantheon of modern sound artists. Starting out as a guitarist, Koyashiki soon shifted to computer-based composition as his interests in ambient textures, electronica and experimental music started to grow.
Most recently, Koyashiki uses programming languages to create deceptively minimal works based on processed sine wives and manipulated field recordings. In addition to his offerings of electronica (soon to be released on the sublime Matter label), Koyashiki also creates work for string ensemble and chamber music, while remaining active in composition for stage and screen. For a penetrating view into the future sound of electronica, we'll be keeping an eye on Go Koyashiki.
Royho aka Ian Hawgood + Davi Liu (U.K. / Tokyo)
Another project brought into the bright lights by musician, producer and sound designer Ian Hawgood (aka Koen Park), Royho sees him team up with longtime collaborator Davi Liu for a live take on the resounding studio work produced thus far under a number of monikers.
Serving up a delicious brew of acoustically-inclined instrumentation (piano, guitar, field recordings) with a careful garnish of warm and fuzzy electronica, Royho will no doubt cover all of the bases, from staccato battery-powered bleeps to shimmering ambient textures and rambling downtempo beats. Don't miss your chance to see some truly inspired music. Sparkling sound creation in action.
Tripon (visuals)
A dynamic visual group who have gained a reputation for the quality, originality and breadth of their work, we are overjoyed to have them back at Test Tone this month.
Vokoi, Satoshi Horii and Daito Manabe are not only adept artists, but have truly embodied the spirit of creating unexpected instruments out of new technologies. You can be sure that they will bring a dose of this vision to cover the walls throughout the evening.
Evil Penguin
Grand wizard of vinyl and interstellar treasure hunter, the Evil Penguin makes the perilous journey to the forbidden archives, extracting the tastiest gems from a cosmic vat of recordings long forgotten.
In his hands the music is gifted new life, waiting its turn next to a Tuvan throat song, or perhaps a 40-minute piece of head-bobbing stoner rock. DJ Evil Penguin spins again...
